Rising to the "Double Weave, Weave Along Challenge"!

ree

Some of our Weavers have recently challenged themselves to learn the art of Double Weave. Working alongside each other in a weave along exercise to produce a double weave sampler, they have now finished warping their looms and have begun weaving.

Double weave is a textile technique that involves weaving two separate layers of fabric simultaneously on the same loom. This method allows for creating a fabric with two independent layers that can remain separate, be joined on one side to create a wider piece, or be connected on both sides to form a tube.

Traditional Welsh Blankets were created using Double weave fabrics which are typically thicker, more durable, and have a unique texture compared to single-weave fabrics.

We'll share more photos as the weave along progresses.
